AstraZeneca’s US BioPharma Respiratory and Immunology (R\&I) team holds a leading position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lupus. As a District Sales Manager for the Primary Care Team, you will play a pivotal role in leveraging our scientific capabilities to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.
Accountabilities
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of pharmaceutical products, disease states, and treatment guidelines within the primary care setting.
- Apply expertise in sales metrics, market analysis, and budget management to drive performance.
- Share actionable insights to guide brand strategy and influence business decisions.
- Coach and develop approximately 9 sales representatives to enhance performance and professional growth, including in-field customer engagement.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment by setting clear expectations and providing ongoing support.
- Inspire and motivate a team of experienced professionals through strategic leadership and adaptability.
- Navigate complex market dynamics with resilience and resourcefulness while maintaining focus on business objectives.
- Identify growth opportunities by leveraging market insights and customer feedback to drive innovative sales strategies.
- Enable the team to gain access through multiple selling channels, utilizing technology to maximize impact.
Essential Skills and Capabilities
- Clinical Acumen: Deep understanding of primary care pharmaceutical products, disease states, and treatment guidelines.
- Business Acumen: Comprehensive knowledge of primary care market dynamics, including budget considerations, formulary access, and provider engagement.
- Coaching Excellence: Proven ability to coach and develop teams, fostering strong relationships with healthcare providers to drive positive patient outcomes.

Minimum Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of demonstrated line management experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Proven leadership and people management capabilities
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Desirable Experience
- 7+ years of pharmaceutical people management experience
- Established subject matter expertise in formulary management and PBMs
- Demonstrated experience in scientific or evidence-based selling, preferably within specialty or complex therapeutic areas
- Skilled in consultative dialogue, building trust with prescribers who are data-driven and skeptical of promotional messaging
- Familiarity with the Boston-area healthcare ecosystem, including academic medical centers and integrated delivery networks (IDNs), is a plus
The annual base pay for this position ranges from approximately US$190,000 & US$225,000.00. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives and an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
